Blue Carbon Sound

We are an interdisciplinary art unit at the intersection of ocean-based climate solutions and sound art. We work internationally with a strong research mindset and have proven performance experience across Japan, North and Central America, as well as Taiwan.

Styles

Visual Art

We create highly conceptual artworks that explore natural resources such as kelp and mangroves, resonating with blue carbon ecosystems.

Sound creation

We produce research-based data sonification and incorporate natural sounds generated from raw materials such as tree branches and fishing lines.

Performances

We perform at academic conferences, for research fellows, and for general audiences at festivals and concert venues, with or without amplification. Our performances range in duration from 15 minutes to two hours.

Workshops

We offer sound experiences using original instruments made from kelp, as well as a highly distinctive setup called “Mangrovox” (similar to the daxophone). Cyanotype imaging is also a central component of our workshops.

Blue Carbon+SOUND

“Blue Carbon Sound” embodies three meanings: trust, the bay, and sound.
Rather than proposing direct reduction measures, we aim to lead the era through artistic practice by engaging with blue carbon in coastal bays through sonic approaches—an artistic force that shapes new ways of sensing and thinking for the future.

Sound Solution for future Climate

One ocean. We only have one.
